Everything. That is the point of commissioning rather than buying. The pieces below are the decisions we will walk you through, in the order they usually matter.

Your own, or sourced for you. Type, colour grade, size and cut.

Recutting a stone you already own to lift its colour or remove damage.

Walk in or message on WhatsApp. Tell us the occasion, the look and the budget you are working to.

Choose the stone

Bring yours or view sourced options side by side under the loupe. Nothing is decided until you have seen them together.

Design the setting

We sketch the piece and agree the metal, the setting style and the finish before any work begins.

Cut, set and finish

The stone is cut if it needs to be, the setting is built by hand, and the piece is polished and checked.

Fit and collect

Sized on you in the shop. Adjustments are made there and then, not posted back and forth.

To confirm

[UNCONFIRMED: how long a custom commission takes.] Competitors in Singapore publish a minimum of five to six weeks, but Sparkle Jewels publishes nothing. A lead time is the single most asked question on a custom page, so it is worth stating. Please confirm a realistic range and we will put it here.

[UNCONFIRMED: which of these are genuine Sparkle Jewels commissions.] Every photograph on this page came from your own Facebook and Instagram, so the pieces are yours. What we cannot tell from outside is which were custom commissions and which were stock. Tell us and we will caption them properly, because a captioned commission is far more persuasive than an uncaptioned photograph.

Necklaces & Pendants

Bridal collars in 916 gold, single stone pendants and everyday chains. A pendant is the usual first commission, because one good stone carries the whole piece.

Bridal

Wedding sets, made to the family's taste

Bridal work is where 916 gold and coloured stones meet, and it is rarely bought off a shelf. Come in with the outfit, the budget and the date, and we will plan the set around all three.

Studs, drops and hoops. Earrings are the easiest place to wear a strong colour, which is why most of ours are built around a single coloured stone rather than a row of small ones.

Bring in a pendant or a ring and we will build earrings that match the stone, the metal tone and the setting style, so the set looks made together rather than collected.

Bangles & Bracelets

Traditional 916 gold bangles with hand engraved detail, gem set link bracelets and tennis lines. Bangles are sold by weight and workmanship, so the quote follows the piece rather than a shelf price.

Gold 916

What 916 actually means

916 is 22 karat gold: 91.6 per cent pure, the rest alloyed for strength. It is the standard for South Asian gold jewellery because the colour is deep and warm and the value is held in the metal itself.

We also work in 18K and 14K where a setting needs to hold a stone harder than 22 karat safely can, and we will tell you which one your piece should be rather than selling you the heaviest option.

Choosing a gemstone

The stone decides almost everything else: the setting, the metal, the cost and how the piece will wear over a lifetime. This is the plain version of what we would tell you across the counter, so you arrive knowing what to ask.

Sapphire

Corundum · Mohs 9

Hardest stone after diamond, so it takes daily wear better than almost anything else. Blue is the best known, but sapphire also occurs in pink, yellow and near colourless.

Ruby

Corundum · Mohs 9

The same mineral as sapphire, red because of chromium. Hard enough for a ring worn every day, and the traditional choice for an auspicious gift.

Emerald

Beryl · Mohs 7.5 to 8

Softer than it looks and usually included, so it prefers a protective setting over an exposed claw. The colour is the point, and it is worth paying for depth over size.

Diamond

Carbon · Mohs 10

The hardest natural material, which is why it survives generations of wear. We set them as centre stones and as the small accents that make a coloured stone read brighter.

Blue Topaz

Topaz · Mohs 8

A clean, bright sky blue at a size that would be unreachable in sapphire. Hard wearing, and the reason it appears so often in our larger cocktail pieces.

Amethyst

Quartz · Mohs 7

Deep purple quartz, generous in size and even in colour. Soft enough that we would steer you to a bezel or halo rather than a bare claw on a ring worn daily.

Aquamarine

Beryl · Mohs 7.5 to 8

Emerald's cousin, pale sea blue and typically far cleaner. It suits large open cuts where light can travel right through the stone. We hold no finished aquamarine pieces at the moment, so this one is sourced and set to order.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline · Mohs 7 to 7.5

The widest colour range of any gem, including bi-colour stones that shift along their length. Every one is different, which makes it a natural fit for a one off commission.

Four questions worth asking any jeweller

Is the stone natural, and has it been heated or treated? Both are normal. Not being told is not.

How hard is it, and does that suit how I will wear it? A soft stone in an exposed ring will chip.

We will answer all four without being asked, and we would rather you asked them everywhere else too.

About

A small shop that does the difficult work

Sparkle Jewels Pte Ltd has traded from Upper Dickson Road since 2017, selling diamond jewellery, gemstones, 916 gold ornaments and fine jewellery, and cutting and setting custom pieces for people who know what they want.

Why we do not have a shelf price

A gemstone piece is worth what the stone is worth, plus the metal by weight, plus the hours of work in the setting. Change any one of those and the number changes. Printing a price on a website would mean quoting the cheapest version of every piece and then correcting you in person, which is not how we want to start.

So we show you the work and quote the piece. Message us a photograph and we will tell you what it would take to make it, or something close to it, at the budget you have.

We buy as well as sell

Diamonds, gemstones and Rolex watches

If you are holding a stone, an old piece or a watch you no longer wear, bring it in. We will look at it properly and make an offer, or tell you plainly if it is worth more to you remade than sold.

[UNCONFIRMED: whether the buying service is still active and what it covers.] This is taken from your own pinned Facebook poster, which reads "We Buy Diamond and Gemstone, also ROLEX Watches". It is a genuinely strong search term that nothing in the brief mentioned. Confirm it is current and we will give it proper space.

[UNCONFIRMED: which phone number is live.] Three different numbers exist for this business. The enquiry form gave 8087 5258, the business registry returned +65 9107 6968, and your own Facebook marketing banner prints +65 9124 7714. Every WhatsApp button on this mockup is wired to the banner number, because it is the one you publish yourselves, but it is a choice we made rather than one you confirmed. Tell us which is the shop line and which is the WhatsApp line and we will correct it everywhere in one change.

The stone, if you have one

Loose or still set in an old piece. We can work from either, and recutting is often worth it.

A photograph you like

From anywhere. It is far quicker to point at something than to describe it.

A budget, even a rough one

It is not a rude question. It decides the stone size and the metal, and it saves everyone time.

The date it is needed for

Weddings, birthdays and Deepavali all have a deadline. Tell us early and we will be honest about it.
